We passed dozens of huge trucks today..... "el centro produce.....southern california harvest.....Imperial county produce" and miles of beautiful green fields .... the trucks all hauling luscious fruits and vegetables to you.... Almost every field we passed had pretty little palm trees growing along beside them.
We started our day as usual with a quick breakfast at McDonalds, then headed on down the hiway about 9:00 a.m..... again, we looked at the map and decided to go on past Yuma to the city of El Centro. That puts us even closer to San Diego so we can drive on in a short distance in the morning daylight.... 115 miles. Today we’re traveling in the mountains for the first part of the day, or as much “in” as the interstate allows... the "Chocolate mountains to the north and the Gila mountain range to the south.......
After turning off on Hiway 8 we got into the Saguaro cactus..... so beautiful and unlike anything I see at home. Just growing in masses along side the road...... I know they’re very common to people in this area but at age 67 I’ve never seen them before so I find them amazing.... They're like snowflakes, it seemed that no two are alike!
This old guy was standing out along side the road all by himself
The thermometer reading on the car ranged from 64 to 70 degrees most of the day..... We entered Pacific time zone today at 1:45 Colorado time..... My computer clock is now set to read CA time currently as I write at 12:45..... I will be going by it for the rest of the trip.
We were stopped at two border inspection points today, both times we were just waved through. One guy looked into our windows at all the luggage and just smiled and told us to have a good trip.......
We have never seen so many campers, motor homes, and RV parks.....There are all kinds and sizes......snow birds escaping the cold winters of the northern states.....I understand the love for our campers but I don't think I would want to be crammed into a park such as what we seen today.....
We reached El Centro about 3:00.... ended up getting a room at the comfort inn.... It’s old, but clean and the bed is good and hard.... We drove through main street full of very old buildings, many with bars on the windows and closed...
We ate supper at a funny little restaurant a few blocks from here run by a Filipino lady....very nice, but I’m not sure she has her cooking skills down pat yet....
We’re anxious to get on the road in the morning, have some more pretty country to go through as we cut across the bottom of the Vallecito Mts. and the Cleveland National Forest. Finally it will be nice to have reached our destination hotel....
San Diego here we come.........
