We had a great tour in Nawiliwili, Kauai...... Got on a bus shortly after we pulled into port... Our guide was from this island born and raised here and he told many stories as he drove us to several places around and through some of the many little towns that are dotted about the whole island... It is known as the garden island and is the oldest inhabited island of the the seven major islands of the Hawaiian Archipelago.
Our destination was “Waimea Canyon” or the grand canyon of the Pacific... We drove a very winding road up the mountain to an elevation of 3,400.... It was a beautiful drive up and we seen many beautiful beaches. The canyon is different from the Arizona Grand Canyon in that it’s covered with vegetation....along with the reds and browns of exposed volcanic rock and the blue and greens of lush tropical growth, it creates a scene that looks like a painting....
Now I'm having problems downloading pictures... It seems that I ran out of space on the blog and have to purchase more which I did yesterday evening, but it takes 24 hours to clear so until that happens I won't be able to post any more.... I will now be waiting for permission to use more space and I have no idea when that will be.
In the meantime I'll try to give you an idea of what we've seen as we tell the Hawaiian islands goodbye.... If I were to come back it would be either to Hilo or Lahaina.. Hilo was such a friendly island and the lava flows and volcano's are fasinating, I also thought it had more interesting growth, trees and flowers that the other islands..... Lahaina was a beautiful island as well, full of small towns and very friendly people...it had a home town feel to it. The rain forest areas on both islands are just unbeliveable with huge, beautiful leaves.... flowers in bright, vibrant colors, and trees that seem to reach the sky... oh what we would give to be able to grow foliage like that at home.......
I will keep working on getting more space and until then will just keep you posted with my journal........
Tonight we eat at the Pinnacle Grill again rather than the main dining room and the casino will open again at 7:30 p.m. as we leave the Hawaiian Islands....
